Privacy Policy

5 Degrees is a movement to bring people back together in person. This policy explains what information we collect when you use this website, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We've kept it short because we don't do much with your data.

What we collect

If you join the mailing list. We collect your name, your email address, an optional phone number, and — if you choose to select any — the interests you flag (investing, partnering, spreading the word, attending events). We also record which link brought you to us, so we know whether you found us from a flyer, a talk, or the website.

If you RSVP to an event. We collect your name, your email address, an optional phone number, and how many people you're bringing, so we know how many to expect. RSVPing also adds you to our mailing list, so you'll hear about the next event — every email we send has an unsubscribe link, and it works immediately.

If you give us your phone number. It's optional on both forms, and giving it to us is not the same as agreeing to be texted. We only send text messages to people who tick the separate box asking for them. If you don't tick it, we may call you about a change to an event you've signed up for, and that's all.

If you ask for text messages. There are two separate boxes and they're separate on purpose. One is for confirmations and reminders about an event you signed up for. The other is for invitations to upcoming events and other promotional texts. Ticking the first is not agreeing to the second, and we don't treat it as though it were.

For whichever you tick, we record that you agreed, when you agreed, and the exact wording you were shown — that record is what proves you asked rather than that we assumed. Message frequency varies, message and data rates may apply, and you can reply STOP at any time to stop messages or HELP to get help. Stopping texts doesn't cancel your RSVP or unsubscribe you from email — those are separate.

That's the whole list of what you send us. We don't ask for a mailing address or payment details, there are no accounts to create, and we never ask for anything we don't actually use.

Saved in your own browser. When you RSVP, we save your name, email and party size in your browser's local storage so that coming back to the event page shows you what you already signed up for instead of an empty form. That stays on your device, we can't read it, and clearing your browser data removes it.

Information collected automatically. Our hosting provider records standard server logs — things like IP address, browser type, and which pages were requested — for security and reliability. We don't use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics on this site.

How we use it

• To email you about 5 Degrees events, ways to get involved, and news worth sharing.
• To follow up personally if you flagged interest in investing or partnering.
• To confirm your RSVP, remind you before the event, and tell you where to go.
• To text you confirmations and reminders, but only if you asked us to.
• To text you about upcoming events, but only if you separately asked us to.
• To keep the site running securely.

We do not sell your information, rent it, or share it for anyone else's marketing. Ever.

We never share text message consent, or the phone numbers attached to it, with anyone. No third party gets them for any purpose, and they are not passed on for marketing of any kind.

Who else touches it

We use a small number of service providers to run the site and our mailing list. They process your information on our behalf and only for that purpose:

• HighLevel — our customer relationship, email and text messaging platform. Your name, email, phone number, interest selections and text message consent are stored there.
• Vercel — hosting for this website.

Text messages are carried by the mobile networks, which is unavoidable if you want to receive one. Your carrier is not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

How we protect it

The site is served over HTTPS, so what you type reaches us encrypted rather than in the clear. There are no visitor accounts and no passwords to create here, and we never ask for payment details — so there is nothing of that kind to lose.

What you send us is stored in HighLevel, and getting to it needs a login held by a small number of people. The credentials our website uses to talk to HighLevel are kept on the server and are never sent to your browser.

No system is perfectly secure, and we won't pretend otherwise. What we can tell you is that we deliberately collect very little — the less we hold, the less there is to protect.

How long we keep it

We keep your details for as long as you want to hear from us. Unsubscribe or ask us to delete you and we'll remove you from the list.

Your choices

• Unsubscribe — every email we send has an unsubscribe link, and it works immediately.
• Stop texts — reply STOP to any message. Reply HELP to any message to get help. Stopping texts does not unsubscribe you from email or cancel an RSVP.
• Access, correct, or delete — email us and we'll tell you what we hold, fix it, or delete it.
• Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information. Ask us and we'll honor them.

Children

This site isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us their details, email us and we'll delete them.

Changes

If we start doing something new with your information — text messages, event ticketing, an app account — we'll update this policy before we do it, and change the date at the top of this page.
