Terms of Use

These terms apply when you use this website. They're deliberately plain — this is an informational site with a mailing-list signup, not a marketplace, so there isn't much to agree to. By using the site, you accept what's below.

What this site is

This site describes 5 Degrees — who we are, what we're building, and how to get involved. It has two forms: one to join our mailing list, and one to RSVP to an event. It doesn't sell anything, take payments, host accounts, or let you post content.

Joining the list

When you submit the form you're asking us to email you. Please give us your own name and email address, and one you actually check. You can unsubscribe at any time from any email we send. How we handle what you give us is set out in our Privacy Policy.

Text messages

You must be 18 years of age or older to use this SMS service. This applies to text messages only — our events are open to everyone, and nothing here changes who can come to one or join the mailing list.

Giving us your phone number does not sign you up for text messages. Texts only go to people who tick a box asking for them, and ticking one is never required to join the list or RSVP to an event.

There are two boxes, and they're separate. One asks for confirmations and reminders about an event you signed up for. The other asks for invitations to upcoming events and other promotional texts. You can tick either, both, or neither, and ticking one does not sign you up for the other.

For whichever you ask for, messages come from 5 Degrees. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving them, or HELP to get help. We'll confirm when you've stopped. Stopping texts doesn't cancel your RSVP or unsubscribe you from email — those are separate, and you can keep or cancel each one on its own.

Text messages depend on your mobile carrier, so we can't promise one will arrive or arrive on time, and carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Please don't give us someone else's number.

Events

Anything this site says about events is a description of what we do, not a promise that a particular event will happen, be available in your area, or have space for you. Details change, and events can be rescheduled or canceled.

RSVPing to an event tells us to expect you and adds you to our mailing list so you hear about the next one. Our events are free and there's nothing to pay, so an RSVP isn't a ticket and it isn't a contract — it's a headcount. If you can't make it, just let us know. If we have to cancel or move an evening, we'll email everyone who RSVP'd, and text the people who asked us to.

Using the site fairly

• Don't submit the form with someone else's details, or with details that aren't real.
• Don't try to break, overload, scrape, or gain unauthorized access to the site.
• Don't use anything here in a way that breaks the law or infringes someone's rights.

Our content

The 5 Degrees name, logo, text, images, and design on this site belong to us or are used with permission. You're welcome to link to the site and to share it — please do. Don't copy it wholesale, resell it, or present it as your own.

Links to other sites

Where we link out — to a research source, for example — we don't control those sites and aren't responsible for what's on them.

No warranties

The site is provided as-is. We work to keep it accurate and available, but we can't promise it will always be online, error-free, or up to date. Any statistics we cite are attributed to their source, and you should check the source if the number matters to you.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, 5 Degrees isn't liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of this site. Nothing here limits any liability that can't legally be limited.

Changes

We may update these terms as 5 Degrees grows — particularly once events are ticketed or the app launches. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, USA.
